"Anyone who imagines that bliss is normal is going to waste a lot of time running around shouting that he has been robbed. The fact is that most putts don’t drop, most beef is tough, most children grow up to be just like people, most successful marriages require a high degree of mutual toleration, and most jobs are more often dull than otherwise. Life is just like an old time rail journey ... delays, sidetracks, smoke, dust, cinders, and jolts, interspersed only occasionally by beautiful vistas and thrilling bursts of speed. The trick is to thank the Lord for letting you have the ride."

Merry Christmas!

My friend, April- came over and snapped a few photos for our Christmas Cards. These were done on our lunch breaks and it was sunny out... but they still turned out pretty cute! Its hard to get a picture with Patrick smiling, so I had to use the one where April snapped him mid-laugh for our Christmas Cards- even though, I look extremely squnity eyed! Oh Well :)

A Charlie Brown Christmas

It was the first Saturday of December and Patrick comes home after a shift at the Fire Department. He wakes me up and suggests we hang Christmas Lights on the house. I was ecstatic, and so excited to decorate our first home with Christmas lights.

We go to Marvin's and I catch Patrick eyeing a 10 ft. Blow Up Santa and spot lights. I look at him and sternly mouth the word, "N O". He says he thinks it would be cool on top of our roof. I hate Life Size Santa's... period. Let me explain, I think life size Santa’s confuse children- especially if they see a Santa on a ROOF anytime other than Christmas Eve. And- I just think they are tacky... there I said it! I quickly distract him from the 10 ft. Blow Up Santa by showing him BB Guns. Whew, that was a close one!

Then we head to Wal-Mart and I begin to load up the buggy with white icicle white lights. Patrick informs me that he would like colored lights on the house. My heart sank! I hate colored lights- they just aren't pretty to me... and I wanted our house to look beautiful and elegant... not colorful and cheesy! We fussed for a few minutes and Patrick goes into this long spill about Christmas is for Children and that if you were to ask any child if they preferred colored lights or white "classy" lights... they WILL always choose colored lights ALWAYS. I began to start seeing it his way, but then quickly realized that if I let him completely have his way- our house will look like Christmas threw up! Okay, I thought to myself, "Compromise. Compromise. Compromise." And then I had it! I ask Patrick, "Hey, why don't we decorate that tree in our yard with Colored lights and have just white lights on the house!" He agreed, and I knew I could just tell everyone the tree was our neighbors. :)

It was A perfect Plan- a Win Win!

Then, I see Patrick begin to grab RED Tinsel Garland and examine it... do I need to explain this one? Patrick seems to think that red tube chasing lights and red tinsel garland are the perfect recipe for making our front stoop columns appear to be candy canes. Why must he torture me?! I just said, "okay" and we checked out. We went home and got straight to work! Thankfully, Patrick couldn't figure out a way to plug in the red tube chasing lights without an extension cord running across the foot traffic area of our stoop. I told him that if he would let me return the lights and garland... I could buy more colored lights for the tree.

Our House at Christmas Time, and our "Neighbors" Charlie Brown Tree

Don't you just love how "elegantly" the lights drape from the tree to the bush below?
